I have always struggled with oily skin. It’s a family curse. Thanks, mom! Over the years, I’ve created a skin care and makeup regimen that cuts down on oil and leaves me with a great look. Try it out and see if it works for you, too.
Wash
When purchasing a facial cleanser,I look for one that reduces shine. It’s also important that it doesn’t remove too many of the essential oils from my face. Harsh cleansers can make skin too dry, which causing the skin to increase oil production. Try finding a good balance that works for your skin.
Moisturize
My dermatologist has always urged me to moisturize my skin. Because I have oily skin, I used to avoid it. I thought that adding moisture would make my face even shinier. In fact, the opposite is true. Like I explained with facial cleansers, your skin produces more oils when it is dry. It is best to moisturize each time you wash your face, about two times each day, for the best results.
Prime
I like to use a gel primer to suck up the oils and keep them in check. This creates a long-lasting oil-free look. My favorite primer is Urban Decay De-Slick in a Tube Mattifying Gel. This gel tightens pores and helps prevent shine. I use it under my foundation, but it can also be used on top of makeup.
Powder
My favorite powder is Covergirl’s Clean Oil Control Pressed Powder. This powder finishes the look and cuts any remaining shine on my face. Just make sure you use the correct color. Ask for a quick consultation if necessary. Powder is the last product on your face, so the color will really show and it’s important that it matches your natural color.
Blot
Throughout the day, I use oil blotting sheets to remove oil that builds up. It is an instant and powerful product that I cannot live without. All oil blotting sheets are created equal, so opt for the generic version to save a few dollars.
